Ludwig Fischer sings Osmin in Mannheim
Ludwig Fischer sings Osmin in Frankfurt

In 1785, the bass Ludwig Fischer, who created the role of Osmin in the original production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Vienna in 1782, made guest appearances in that role in both Mannheim and Frankfurt. Dexter Edge’s commentary on Fischer’s appearance in Mannheim surveys the singer’s career and reception, and includes several new documents.

  • 28 Oct 1769 & 2 Mar 1771. Images have been added from Ortes’s letters to Hasse.
