Commentary

This notice advertises the first of the two Lenten concerts given by the Tonkünstler-Societät at the Burgtheater on 13 March 1785. The concert featured the premiere of Mozart’s Davide penitente K. 469 (conducted by the composer) in addition to Haydn’s Symphony in D minor Hob I:80, choruses by Gassmann and Haydn, and unidentified arias and an oboe concerto. The concert was repeated with a few changes on 15 March. The poster to which the notice refers is given in Dokumente, 212–13. For more information on the background to this concert, see Black 2015.
